Come explore the world’s oldest and largest electric railway museum: Kennebunkport’s Seashore Trolley Museum! See streetcars from around the world and almost every system in the United States. This time of year you can also enjoy special holiday events!
The Seashore Trolley Museum in Kennebunkport will transport you (no pun intended) to a bygone era with its impressive collection of beautifully restored streetcars. Their collection contains more than 260 transit historic vehicles from all around the country and the world. Their massive collection includes transit vehicles from Australia, Canada, England, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Japan, and Scotland.
It’s more than just streetcars, though. The Seashore Trolley Museum also has trackless trolleys, buses, interurbans, rapid transit cars, work and freight equipment associated with streetcars. They even have the kind of bus that replaced trolleys in their collection.
They have so much, in fact, that the museum has two locations to display them all. There’s the Seashore Trolley Museum here in Kennebunkport, and a satellite facility, the National Streetcar Museum in Lowell, MA.
Visitors can peruse the exhibits and grounds as they wish or follow along on a guided tour. Probably the biggest attraction the Seashore Trolley Museum offers is daily antique streetcar rides! The museum has 1.5 miles of private railroad track and offers rides in a variety of streetcars every day from 10:05 am until 4:15 pm. You can even ride as many times as you want!
